Project Orange Architects

Project Orange is a resourceful and agile Architecture and Design Studio set up by Christopher Ash and James Soane. Our new studio is based in Lavenham, where we also live. We also have a London satellite office. We specialise in houses and hospitality working on architecture, interiors and graphics. We believe in working collaboratively to generate purposeful and sustainable projects. In the face of the ecological crisis we are actively taking an ethical position that values resilience, innovation and community.

We have been working across East Anglia and Suffolk on projects that celebrate the rich heritage of the county whilst meeting twenty-first century concerns. This includes houses and housing in Lavenham, Somerleyton, Dennington, Ashbocking, Brent Eleigh, Walberswick and Leiston. We also completed the £2m refurbishment of the Adnams Swan hotel in Southwold. Further afield we have designed projects across Europe and Asia that include houses, hotels and offices.

Over the past 20 years we have won many awards including: RIBA, Suffolk Design, Civic Trust, World Architecture, Brick, British Homes, Building for Life.

Our diverse approach is underpinned by sound technical logic, common sense and spatial intelligence. A successful project needs a successful idea, and we work hard to generate narratives that tell a compelling story. Project Orange tell stories, often from the inside out.  We like to weave local materials, folklore and know-how into a compelling and original collage. We favour a landscape-led approach and look to connect with nature, often working with Lavenham based Janey Auchincloss.
