Fauré ~ Requiem | Haydn ~ Insanae et Vanae Curae | Mozart ~ Laudate Dominum

Performed by the Ely Consort

On Saturday 12 October at 7.30 pm The chamber choir Ely Consort, conducted by Matthew Rudd, will be performing a programme of choral music in St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Lavenham.

Described as ‘undoubtedly one of the finest choral groups in the area’, the choir, which usually performs in Ely Cathedral and other venues around Ely and Cambridge, is delighted to be venturing further afield and is looking forward to performing in Lavenham Church for the first time.

The varied first half includes music by Mozart, Bach and Haydn, as well as a beautiful choral arrangement of ‘Underneath the Stars’ made famous by Voces8, and an outstandingly entertaining modern piece by Ola Gjeilo, ‘Unicornis captivatur’, which uses an incredible mixture of medieval sounds and dance-like music to tell the story of the ‘captured unicorn’, an extraordinary text written in a Swiss monastery over six hundred years ago!

The second half consists of Fauré’s exquisite Requiem, surely one of the most well-loved of all choral compositions. The baritone solos in the Requiem will be sung by choir chairman John Simmons, and we are delighted to welcome as our guest soloist the Cambridge-based soprano Eleanor Cramer. Eleanor will sing not only the Pie Jesu from the Requiem, but also two beautiful solos in the first half – Quia respexit from Bach’s Magnificat, and Laudate Dominum from Mozart’s Vespers.

The choir will be accompanied on the fine organ in the church by Christoper Moore. Tickets are available on the door, or at a reduced price in advance from

Do come along and hear this programme of wonderful music, sung in a stunning venue by a great choir!
