WELCOME TO LAVENHAM, SUFFOLK

Lavenham, located in the heart of the stunning Suffolk countryside, is considered to be Britain’s best preserved medieval village and one of Suffolk’s most important wool towns.  Medieval charm can be found at every turn with timber framed buildings lining the narrow streets and lanes leading up to the impressive market place.  There is a rich history to discover – Lavenham was the 14th richest town in Tudor England thanks to its famous Lavenham Blue broadcloth.

Over 300 buildings are listed as being of architectural and historic interest, including the beautiful and stately church of St Peter and St Paul, The Guildhall, Little Hall, and De Vere House to name but a few.

Lavenham is proud of its strong links to America.  The Lavenham airbase was home to the 487th Bombardment Group of the 8th US Army Air Force.  The group flew 185 missions and more than 6000 sorties whilst stationed at Lavenham during WWII.

Today Lavenham is a thriving village with a strong community spirit. It is a hub of independent boutique shops and galleries, fantastic restaurants, chic hotels and luxury holiday cottages, plenty of cafes and pubs, and has a full diary of events and activities for locals and visitors alike.

Lavenham makes for an excellent day out and is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding Suffolk countryside and coast.  We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Lavenham is made for Christmas!

THE NOVEMBER LOCKDOWN MEANS THAT NON-ESSENTIAL AND HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO OPEN UNTIL 2ND DEC.  HOWEVER MANY OF OUR FOOD PROVIDERS ARE OFFERING A TAKEAWAY SERVICE, AND MANY RETAILERS ARE OPERATING ONLINE.  FOLLOW OUR FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM PAGES FOR NEWS AND UPDATES.

THINK BIG SHOP SMALL THIS CHRISTMAS!

Our popular Christmas Fair will not be happening this year due to the Covid crisis.  However our local businesses will be putting on a marvellous show with gorgeous wares, stunning window displays and festive fare, all against the most stunning backdrop which is our lovely village.  Check out the What’s on Page to see what’s on offer!

Lavenham has become a buzz with shoppers from far and wide and they are backing our high street by shopping small this year. Our vibrant community of businesses have never pulled together as much as they currently are,  In uncertain times, one-to-one personal service becomes paramount and old values reappear. Life is indeed simpler, and we are all the better for it.

From December, Lavenham will hope to stay open a little later on a Friday evening to ensure that you can find your unique gifts. Unrushed and crowd-free, take your time to select the perfect something for that special someone.

If you’ve not visited Lavenham at Christmastime it is truly magical. From twinkly lights, traditional trees and  beautiful window displays, it couldn’t be more of a fairy-tale experience. We hope that once the current lockdown is lifted, you will be able to visit us again, take a guided tour, hug a hot chocolate in front of a log fire and explore our historic village.
