LAVENHAM CHARITIES (REGISTERED)

Lavenham has a few good charitable causes which are led and managed mainly by volunteers and the generosity of some of the 1,700 residents. The medieval wool town has a diverse number of charities which mirror the village’s needs: caring for its elderly, preserving its heritage, nurturing its youngest residents and giving its school-leavers financial support.

A local mission and tradition of community self-help that stretches back centuries.

Historic poverty relief and housing

Lavenham Charities for the Poor was established in 1963 Charity No. 234510 and still maintains 18 victorian almshouses in the village as well as distributing grants to older villagers.

Faith and heritage

Church Council of Lavenham Charity No. 1131642 looks after the Grade-I listed Church of St Peter and St Paul, funds pastoral outreach, worship, conservation and wider mission causes.

Lavenham Salvation Army Charity No. 214779 a church as well as supporting the residents of Lavenham.  Also holds regular fundraising events as well as outreach.

Early-years education

Lavenham Pre-school Charity No. 1184176 is run as a charitable organisation from the village hall offering 8am-6pm sessions for two to four years by qualified early-years staff.

Educational bursaries

Founded in 1864, The Lavenham Exhibition Endowment Charity No. 310469 makes small grants to help local young people meet the costs of further on higher education.

Community

Lavenham Community Council  Charity No. 1106956 supports amateur sports, development and recreation from the Village Hall with a wide range of activities and events.

Woodland Conservation

Lavenham Woodland Project Limited Charity No 1101288 locally referred to as DyeHouse Wood Field focuses on woodland conservation and management.

LATEST EVENT – Open Day

13 July 2025  12 noon to 4pm

Forest school activities, Displays Orienteering,  Food Van, Musician – Nigel Ashcroft. Raffle draw – tickets at Heeks or Pickle & Lillies or on the day. Lots to do and fun for everyone out in the open air.

Veterans

Lavenham Royal British Legion Charity No. 219279 welcomes members and non-members to its clubhouse. It provides lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. Also plays a significant role in commemorating those who have served and sacrificed their lives.
